CIRP was founded in 1951 with the aim to address scientifically, through international co-operation, issues related to modern production science and technology. The International Academy for Production Engineering takes its abbreviated name from the French acronym of College International pour la Recherche en Productique (CIRP) and includes some 600 worldwide members. The number of members is intentionally kept limited, so as to facilitate informal scientific information exchange and personal contacts.

This technological centre of the Basque Country integrated into the BRTA, Basque Research & Technology Alliance. This is a leading research one for machine tool technology, advanced manufacturing processes and artificial intelligence applied to manufacturing. Located at Elgoibar, the heart of the Basque Country machine tool sector. The centre will open its doors for a visit the previous day to the Conference, in the pre-tour which details are in the paralle activies section. The center is divided into four research groups: Dynamics and Control, Design and Precision Engineering, ICT and Automation, and Manufacturing Processes.

The Aeronautics Advanced Manufacturing Center (CFAA) was created as a new model of relationship between different research levels and nowadays industry applications. This center was promoted and funded by the Department of Economy development and Infrastructure of the Basque Country Government, Provincial Council of Bizkaia and the launching was supported by the frame of the Technological and Scientific Park of Bizkaia.
