Departure and arrival point: Itsasmuseum Muelle Ramón de la Sota, 1, Bilbao
Included in the registration fee
The boat trip along the Bilbao estuary from the Maritime Museum to the Portugalete Bridge will take you on a fascinating journey through the city’s industrial past, revealing how this river artery was the epicentre of its economic development. As the tour progresses, old shipyards, port cranes and industrial structures converted into modern installations can be seen, as is the case in Zorrotzaurre, a former industrial quarter undergoing a transformation towards a model of urban innovation. Throughout the visit you will see vestiges of the intense mining and iron and steel activity that defined Bilbao during the 19th and early 20th centuries, such as the loading docks and factories that still dot the riverbanks. Arriving at the Portugalete Bridge, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, the tour ends with one of the architectural jewels.
At the end we will have a cocktail next to the Itsasmuseum.
